I have just recently read 'Roivan' and i think it is terrific! The characters are so realistic and lovable. You can really connect with them. The setting descriptions are so vivid too! It is a great book, and i look forward to Part Two.

I really enjoyed the book because you describe the characters very well and I could see them in my mind. The best part was it always rolled out like it should and it was interesting at the start and then you have got to keep reading. I liked that it didn't get boring at any point.

I grew very fond of Roivan as I read the book, and have thought a lot about her ever since. I am very much looking forward to the next instalment, and feel certain that any reader (a child of any age) would feel the same way. I thought that you developed and sustained all the characters very well. Carter appeals greatly - for me, a credible mix of father-figure, hero-of-sorts, a man of principle when put to the test, and someone that Roivan can trust.

There were some delightful moments in the book, and your language use at times is beautifully poignant. I enjoyed the way that you created enlightening, quite inspirational moments using a minimum of words, and allow those moments to hang in the air just long enough to make an impact. And add to this the fact that it is really a very good yarn, paced fast enough to entertain, without losing opportunities to deliver significance and meaning.

The thinking person's (child or adult) Harry Potter and The Subtle Knife combined. A tremendous read.

I have just finished reading 'ROiVAN' and I like it very much, congratulations! When is the next one coming out? I want to read more! I wasn't so sure of the cover, those eyes put me off, but once I started reading, I realised that those 'opal' eyes were Roivan.

I loved the novel. I so thoroughly enjoyed reading it, I savored every word and decided not to rush through it. I'm not sure how MacLean does it but she conveys a realism in the characters that is remarkable. The feelings and interaction of Roivan, Carter and Stenway seem so real, very genuine for any novel, I'm amazed it comes through so clear in science fiction.

Glynne MacLean is such a powerful writer. I thought the ending was great because these characters are friends now and it ends on a relatively good note for the moment. But I'm disappointed I finished the book. I must read it again and I'll be anxiously waiting for the second one.

The writing is so believable. I had no trouble throughout the entire text believing what I was reading. I was right there with Roivan. It was not just identifying with the characters. MacLean makes the reader part of the story rather than telling or relating a story. The characters and their situations became real, as though they took their own lives on in the reader's mind. It takes a great writer to establish, with the reader, this real and "genuine" quality. The tension was perfect, it always had me wanting to read more but I didn't want to finish it too soon. As someone who loves the ocean, I enjoyed the wonderful images of the sea.

This is only the SECOND New Zealand Novel I have read in as many years whereby something ACTUALLY HAPPENS!! (Shock, horror). And in the case of Roivan, that probably qualifies as the understatement of the century. And here's another one: I LOVE it! Beats Star Trek hands down.
Off to read it a second time. I have already recommended it to some friends.

I finished the book and it was SOOOOOOOO COOOOOLLLL. I can't wait for the next one. Which coming from me is a HUGE compliment cos I'm not a sci fi kinda person. Man Roivan is really cool ay? Ya gotta feel sorry for her tho. She can do some pretty incred stuff. Her eyes sound primo. Now I can understand the cover. Wellllll when is the 2nd one coming out?

Roivan is definitely going to be a BIG seller. Well it's definitely competition for Artemis Fowl, Northern Lights and Harry Potter.

I thought it was great! Here's why:

  • I think I am well read and what I like in books is for the story to kick of quick and keep flowing.
  • I found the story took me in, and kept me there.
  • I liked the formation of your characters they are real.

In many books even ones by big name authors the characters sometimes don't present themselves as real or as believable. (example here would be Clive Cussler). I liked it was sci fi, but I did not have to read a huge dictionary of terms to follow the story (Tom Clancy is real bad for that).
